Autorenporträt
Gary Brewer is a painter, sculptor, writer and curator. He was raised in Southern California in his youth and then moved to Northern California where he lived for many years. He returned to Los Angeles ten years ago and lives in Pasadena with his wife, the artist Aline Mare, and their cat Yogi.Brewer's early years were spent in the Mojave desert where his father was a test pilot and later worked on the Apollo mission to send a man to the moon. The intensity of the desert and the flora and fauna that lived there left a deep impression on his consciousness. The idea of space travel and seeing the early projects in the development of aerospace technology also had an impact on his imagination.Later he lived in Orange County and filled his youth with surfing and spending long hours on the beach. His move to Northern California brought him into contact with the lush redwoods and oak forests of the region. All of these experiences have shaped his aesthetic and philosophical dreams.Writing came later, after his return to Southern California. In response to the excitement he experienced as Los Angeles blossomed into a center of contemporary art, filled with luminous creative souls, he began writing short posts on social media. The response from artists and friends was that he should begin writing and publishing his articles about art. This began his career as a writer. He started writing in earnest in 2017 and over the last six years has published one hundred and fifty articles and catalogue essays. This is his first book.
