Louchrisa Ford High was educated in the public schools of Georgetown, South Carolina, and graduated with honors from Howard High School at the age of fourteen. She attended South Carolina State University where she majored in music education with piano and clarinet as her major instruments. She graduated with the highest average in her class in 1963. Dr. High obtained the Master of Science Degree in Music (1972) and Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration (1988) from Tennessee State University. She received a national award from Phi Delta Kappa for her doctoral dissertation entitled, "A History of Black Music and Biographics of Selected Black Composers." In 1984, Dr. High was evaluated by the Tennessee State Department of Education and was successful in achieving the highest level on the Career Ladder for excellence in teaching. In 1992, she was selected as an "Outstanding Woman in Nashville." In 1993, she was the recipient of the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association's Ted Martin Human Relations Award for being a dedicated teacher and humanitarian. In 1994, Dr. High received the Colonel Aide de Camp recognition from the Governor of Tennessee for being honored as an Educator of Excellence. She also won the prestigious National Council of Negro Women's Excellence in Training Award.
