In statistics, empirical Bayes methods are a class of methods in which some or all of the integrals over conditional probability distributions which arise from Bayes' theorem in Bayesian inference are replaced by statistics estimated directly from the data. These methods allow one to estimate quantities (probabilities, averages, etc.) about an individual member of a population by combining information from empirical measurements on the individual and on the entire population.
