The present study makes an attempt to understand the characteristics of an effective sexuality education programme that can promote gains in knowledge of preadolescents regarding Sexuality and Reproductive Health. The sample consisted of 39 preadolescents (11 - 13 years) of 7th standard, studying in a Hindi medium Municipal School. Data were collected using a pre-post test design. Results show that all girls preferred their mothers to give them information regarding sexuality. Boys, on the other hand, preferred media. The sample gained knowledge in the areas of puberty and accompanying changes and relationships and sexuality. However, not much gain was seen in the knowledge of self-efficacy behaviours regarding sexuality education after the intervention programme. An effective sexuality education programme involves various strategies like role plays, case and situational analysis and stories, which in turn increase the knowledge level of participants, builds positive attitudes and behavioural skills.
