This book is an outcome of the research work carried out to assess the empowerment of women decision- makers in local governance in Kedida Gamela Woreda of Kambata Thambara zone of South Nation Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPRS), Ethiopia. This book focuses on Women Representatives of Kebele House (Village council) who are excluded from decision- making for long time in various levels of governance in the study area and also tried to identify the attitudes of the societies towards Women in leadership positions in the study area. In order to empower the status of women, the SNNPRS has adopted various strategies to ensure the participation of women in decision- making at the grassroots level. In response to the problem women have been facing, the government encourages affirmative actions, formulated laws and policies that address their issues. The government has also established women affairs bureaus, departments and offices at Regional, Zonal and District governmentlevels respectively for successful accomplishment and coordination of gender issues.
