Empowerment is a process which generates changes in ideas, perceptions and creates awareness about own's rights and opportunities for self-development in all sphere of life. Self-help is a tool for empowerment. A self-help group is not a static institution, it grows on the resources and its management. It is a very effective means of empowering poor women. Self-help groups are a potential source to empower and encourage marginalized women to save and utilize savings to build self-reliance and confidence and provide better access to and control over resources. Micro-finance and SHG intervention has brought tremendous change in the life of women at the grass root level. Therefore, the participation of women in self-help groups made a significant impact on their empowerment in social, personal and economic aspects.
