At a crucial moment in the history of Spain, Teresa Freixes offers us an enlightening perspective on the process that led to the consolidation of democracy in Spain, while making us reflect on the validity of the "consensus of '78". From the challenges faced during the Transition to the current threats against the rule of law, the professor of Constitutional Law and jury member of the Princess of Asturias Awards invites us to reflect on democratic principles and the imperative of defending them in the face of adversity. With a critical but hopeful eye, she dismantles the myths and false narratives that seek to undermine the legitimacy of Spanish democracy. His commitment to truth and justice resonates throughout these pages, reminding us of the importance of remaining vigilant in the face of any threat to our freedoms and rights. These pages are not only an indispensable historical testimony, but also a call to action to preserve and strengthen the foundations of our democracy, urging us to take responsibility for protecting the legacy of the Transition and defending the hard-won democratic principles. An indispensable work for understanding our past, reflecting on our present and forging a more just and democratic future for all. "We cannot choose the time in which we live, but we can choose the response we give to the time in which we live. In the seventies of the last century, a generation chose to give an unprecedented response in our history: in the face of confrontation, the pact. A generation that knew it was destined to close an ominous chapter in the history of Spain and that was not thinking of revenge, but of a civic, humane Spain. And if for that we had to push towards coexistence and tolerance, let's do it, that was the motto of the time and place". Alfonso Guerra, former Prime Minister of Spain.
