A lonely young man travels through East Africa, Europe and India. Unsure of what he is looking for and with little desire to return to his homeland of South Africa, he follows the path of the travellers he meets. Seen as an admirer, a lover and a carer, each new episode - with an enigmatic stranger, a group of carefree backpackers, a woman on the edge - reveals aspects of his identity. On his journeys without a clear destination, letting chance set the path, he will learn that one cannot exist without encountering others. In a Stranger's Room, shortlisted for the 2010 Booker Prize, is an intense novel that speaks of rage and compassion, longing and frustrated desire. A disturbing and evocative exploration of how life unfolds.
