One of the challenges faced by dental specialists today is in the assessment and management of patients with increasingly complex medical conditions. Not only has the average life expectancy increased dramatically over the past 50 years, but our geriatric patients are much more likely to be at least partially dentulous and have a complex medical history with multiple medical problems and the use of multiple medications. The dental management of these medically compromised patients can be problematic in terms of oral complications, dental therapy, and emergency care.
