This research focuses on generating electricity using heavy fuel oil as the most economical power generation with respect to other fuels. The problem is that, in general, the use of fuel oils to generate electricity is expensive. But some oils are less expensive than others. We studied the use of heavy fuel oils as a way of reducing the cost of electricity production. The methodology used in this study was reading books, reports and internet, visiting our case study site and interviewing some utilities in generation domain. We studied the working principals of an internal combustion power plant, analyzed economic features of generating electric power using HFO and other fuels in internal combustion power plant, and finally made a comparative study between generating electric power using HFO and other fuels. The result of this study has been that power generation using HFO is the cheapest among other internal combustion power plants.
