Autorenporträt
Yongjian Gu received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. He is a professor at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and an adjunct at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). He teaches thermal fluids, total energy systems and design, propulsions, steam turbine and components, gas turbine and auxiliary equipment, engineering economics, and other courses to undergraduates and graduate students. He gives review and practice workshops of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in the mechanical discipline. He holds a license as a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of New York. He also holds a certificate as a professional Oracle Database Administrator (DBA). Prior to teaching in academic institutions, he worked at industrial corporations, consulting firms, and the U.S. Department of Energy's national laboratory as a senior mechanical engineer, a project engineer, and a lead engineer for many years. He has rich and valuable academic and professional experiences in HVAC system, piping systems, thermal energy systems, and renewable/ sustainable energy applications. He is very knowledgeable about dimensions, units, and unit conversion in engineering. He is actively involved in engineering research and development and academic activities. He has many publications in his subject areas of teaching and professional expertise. He serves as a peer reviewer for multiple scientific and technical journals. He also sits on several professional boards and conference committees.
