The book discusses high-performance fibers and yarns before presenting the engineering fabrics and architectures needed for particular properties required of high-performance textiles. Properties covered include moisture absorption, pilling resistant knitwear, fire retardant fabrics, camouflage fabrics, insect repellent fabrics, filtration, and many more.
Coordinated by two highly distinguished editors, this book is a practical resource for all those engaged in textile research, development and production, for both traditional and new-generation textile products, and for academics involved in research into textile science and technology.
Dr Menghe Miao is a Principal Research Scientist in materials science and engineering at Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Melbourne, Australia. With a PhD in textile engineering from The University of Leeds, his research interests and publications embrace many facets of the science and engineering of fibre-based materials, including fibres, yarns and fabrics, production and properties of carbon nanotube yarns, fibre-reinforced composite materials, and textile sensors, actuators and energy storage devices. Dr Miao established the fundamental equations of yarn twisting dynamics, which form the basis of this book. He has published ~180 refereed journal papers, 2 edited books and numerous technical reports for textile and related industries.
John Xin is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Charted Colourist of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, UK, and a panel member of the International Editorial Board of Coloration Technology published by the Society of Dyers and Colourists. Prof. Xin's main teaching and research interests include functional and smart textile and garment treatments, new functional material synthesis, nano-encapsulation systems with controllable release, coloration technology, colour science, including colour measurement and quality control, colour communication technology. He has published over 300 book chapters, SCI journal papers, conference proceedings, and patents, and has been invited as keynote speakers and session chairs at numerous international conferences.
