They followed the sound of the water until they found a little cottage. Inside, they found an old woman sitting by the fire. She told them that they were in a very dangerous place, but if they could find three objects from around the house she would tell them the stories. The first object was a bowl of porridge, which they found in the kitchen. The second was a knife, which was on the table. The third was a spindle, which was on top of the dresser. The old woman told them that the stories were about three sisters who lived in this house long ago and told their stories as well as some of their adventures to visitors who came to visit them.
