For decades, the approaches to and techniques of teaching and learning English have been changing in Bangladesh. New curriculum and textbooks are coming up and being used as the prime source of materials for teaching English. With an intention to find out the reasons for the pitiable condition of the students ability to use English in communication, this book presents an analytical assessment of the NCTB published EFL textbook English Grammar and Composition for Class 9-10 which has been introduced recently at the secondary level. The analysis has been done on the basis of a self-constructed textbook evaluation scheme. The study basically assesses the possibilities and weaknesses of this EFL textbook for language skills, language components, content, and some other general criteria. In its preface, the book under assessment, attempts to clarify some intended teaching objectives, but the findings of the evaluation show that these objectives have not been perceived well in its contents.
