Dear hardworking students of the Noble Ghana Institute of Languages, in our collective desire, resolve and determination to have a more coordinated system of teaching and learning at the Institute, I announce, to the glory of the Almighty God and the benefit of Humankind, that this book is a giant step towards having a more standardized textbook in English Language for use by staff and students of English Language at the Institute. The book covers a large chunk of critical topics as spelt out in the official syllabus of the Institute: "GHANA INSTITUTE OF LANGUAGES, DRAFT SYLLABUS-25 MAY 2009". Given the organic nature of language and the resultant need to situate it all the time to suit the socio-economic needs of its users, I have chosen topics meticulously to meet contemporary needs of our students. This is done whilst maintaining a healthy balance of students' exposure to the Four Cardinal Skills of language: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Whilst I unequivocally admit the non-exhaustive status of this book in lieu of all the topics outlined in the 2009 syllabus, I remain fulfilled in blazing the trail in this regard.
