Produktbeschreibung
In the first chapter of my work I give a brief
overview on word stress in general.
In the next chapter I discuss the quite unique
stress system of present day English by examining
one by one the separate word classes and also the
morphologically complex words.
In the following five chapters I discuss the
evolution of the English stress system, starting
from the "pre-English" - the Germanic - period, and
then finally arriving to Later Modern English. I
also try to show, from time to time, that change in
the English stress system is not an isolated
phenomenon and that how other linguistic - and also
non-linguistic - changes brought about changes in
the stress system and how stress change caused other
changes in the language.
Finally, in the last chapter, I give a short summary
of what has been said and I draw my conclusion.
Autorenporträt
I was born and educated in Hungary. I graduated from university
in 2008 in English. During my university years I
discovered how interesting a field of science linguistics is. I
hope that my work will help others to discover the same thing
and that it will be useful for those, who are making research in
this particular area of lingusitics.
