This book gives a brief introduction to enzymes. The general features of the enzymes, their structures, enzyme kinetics and theories of enzyme catalysis have been briefly discussed. Brief review on the ligninperoxidase in which purification and characterisation of ligninperoxidase, physical and kinetic properties of ligninperoxidase, crystal structure of ligninperoxidase, ligninperoxidase producing microorganisms and different biotechnological applications of ligninperoxidase have been mentioned. Materials and methods used for achieving the results have been given. Results and discussion deals with the achievement during the course of investigations. Three ligninperoxidase producing fungal strains Penicillium citrinum, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus terreus have been isolated and identified. The enzymatic characterisatics like Km, pH and temperature optima of the ligninperoxidase produced by the above fungal strains have been determined. A new substrate n-propanol has been developed for assaying the liginnperoxidase activity.
