Stability analysis of existing and optimized dumps by older & modern methods helps in identifying change in stability. In some of the cases, stability has improved in optimized dumps. Further, effects of plasticity of dump material on stability and identification of compound failures have been discussed. This helps in establishing norms and location of dump stability monitoring.

Shyam Gupte, Ph.D.(Indian Institute of Technology Bombay),is an Associate Professor in Department of Mining Engineering at National Institute of Technology Nagpur. Earlier, he worked in various capacities in mining industry. He has undertaken several research projects and has published research papers in various national and international journals.
