This book will serve as a self-learning kit to develop the competence of Barangay Health Workers (BHW) as health educator, community organizer and health care service provider in their delivery of care to the individual, family and community. It recognizes the rich experiences of the BHWs and bringing out their best by applying the learner-centered approach, wherein the ultimate goal is for the learner to take charge of her learning. This self-learning kit will upgrade their skills, knowledge and practices, and will be a reference and resource book for the BHWs working in the community. This contains topics as, basic maternal and child health, proper nutrition, personal hygiene, infectious and communicable diseases, non communicable diseases, environmental sanitation, herbal medicines and first aid; and simple procedures that the average BHWs should need to know.
