This text is intended as a consolation for readers who hate coffee-table picture books. Not all art-works, but all projects in this book are the work of BBM, a group of researchers, authors, technicians and artists, and it documents most of BBM’s research and development activities in the fourteen years from 2004-2017. BBM is short for “Beobachter der Bediener von Maschinen”, literally: “Observers of the Operators of Machines”. The group´s social behaviour was often described as “collective”, but in order to better understand how BBM has functioned day-to-day, during a generation long time span, covering both the pre- and post- cold war phases, you might regard it as „incorporative“.
