Given that Islam is a great religion in the DRC after Christianity, given the place it occupies in Congolese society, with its ideology, culture and virtues that it conveys, one cannot help but say that it has a very important role to play at a time when social equity is no longer a concern for many and poverty continues to reach record levels. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, there is still a long way to go to rid the world of the age-old scourges of hunger, poverty, illiteracy, etc. The lives of millions of people have been turned upside down at an unprecedented rate and with an intensity that would have been unimaginable only a generation ago.But we should not delude ourselves. Even today, 1.2 billion people, a fifth of the world's population, continue to live in conditions of extreme poverty, with more than two-thirds of the population in the DRC still living below the poverty line. The scale of poverty and hunger in this seemingly opulent world of ours is profoundly immoral.
