Koliopoulos completou o seu doutoramento em modelação numérica avaliando os melhores designs sustentáveis e as TIC de geoinformação para avaliação de risco e tomada de decisões na Universidade de Strathclyde, no Reino Unido. Tem trabalhado em vários projectos financiados de investigação e desenvolvimento.
