The Iguaçu River is an important public asset in terms of its social, historical, economic and environmental aspects for the municipalities of União da Vitória (PR) and Porto União (SC). The aim was to highlight these characteristics of the Iguaçu River through the socio-environmental perceptions and social representations of primary school children living in the urban areas of these two municipalities. The children's environmental perceptions of the river's waters can be analysed. The children's expressions showed that very little is studied in the school environment in relation to the Iguaçu River, as well as educational practices based on Environmental Education in favour of this river. This reinforces the need for a study such as this one, which can support local education and strengthen studies on Environmental Education, especially in relation to the environmental aspects of the Iguaçu River.
