Environmental risks are becoming more alarming and impactful as communities do not have the skills and abilities to deal with them. This book shows how the use of social vulnerability indicators represents an adequate tool for the analysis of the existing vulnerability of the population at the local level, contributing to take measures for the preparation and reaction before, during and after disasters. The application of social vulnerability indicators was developed in the El Tambo neighbourhood of the city of Montería Colombia, where a low degree of social vulnerability was determined, but which allows for a contribution to the environmental management of the Colombian territory with a sustainable development approach.
