This book details zeolites, their structures and the parameters that influence their synthesis, providing a new and actual perspective of this field. Following this, the authors show different processes used to synthesize zeolites using residues, natural materials, and other eco-friendly materials such as raw powder glass, clays, aluminum cans, diatomites, rice ashes or coal ashes. Finally, this book gives the reader a wide range of different synthesis methods that they can be applied to several industrial processes.

Autorenporträt
Rafael Chaves Lima has a bachelor in Chemistry from Universidade Estadual do Ceará and, currently, he is finishing his master's degree in Chemistry from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sibele Pergher and Dr. Lindiane Bieseki. His research is focused on inorganic physicalchemistry, specifically on zeolite synthesis and the use of alternative sources to obtain microporous materials. Lindiane Bieseki obtained her Doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in 2016 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sibele Pergher and Prof. Dr. Fernando Rey (from the Institute of Chemical Technology - ITQ/CSIC - in Spain). She has experience in Chemistry and in synthesis and preparation of catalysts and environmental chemistry. She acts mainly on the following topics: acid treatment and pillarization of clays, synthesis of zeolites with emphasis on the use of natural raw materials and silicoaluminous residues, and synthesis of mesoporous materials, such as SBA-15. Paloma Vinaches Melguizo obtained her Doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in 2017 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sibele Pergher. She is specialized in zeolite synthesis and characterization with emphasis in direction and the use of alternative raw materials, such as raw powder glass or kaolin. Sibele Berenice Castellã Pergher obtained Chemical Engineering degree at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) on 1990. Masters in Chemical Engineering, degree obtained at the State University of Maringá (UEM) on 1993. Doctor (PhD) in Chemistry, degree obtained at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia - Spain on 1997. Two Postdoctoral degrees obtained at the Chemistry Institute of UFRGS (2002 and 2009). She was Professor and researcher at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul from 1998 to 2001. She worked at the Integrated Regional University of Alto Uruguay and Missions - URI - Campus Erechim from 2001 to 2010 as a teacher, researcher and course coordinator. She is currently a professor and researcher (since 2010) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN working in the course of Petrochemical Chemistry and in the postgraduate courses in Chemistry - PPGQ and Postgraduate in Materials Science and Engineering - PPGCEM.  She was vice-coordinator of the postgraduate course in Chemistry from 2010 to 2012 and coordinator of the PPGQ from 2013 to 2016. She is currently pro-rector of Research at UFRN. She is also director of the Catalysis Division of the Brazilian Society of Chemistry - SBQ and Vice Director of the Brazilian Society of Catalysis - SBCat. It is part of the Synthesis Commission of the International Zeolite Association. And represents Brazil in FISOCAT - Ibero-American Federation of Catalysis. She is coordinator and founder of LABPEMOL Laboratory - Laboratory of Molecular Sieves. She has experience in the area of Chemistry and Materials, with emphasis on Synthesis and Characterization of Inorganic Solids, working mainly on the following topics: synthesis of catalysts, zeolites, clays, mesoporous materials, lamellar, pillared and delaminate materials, adsorption and catalysis processes. She has 140 published papers, 15 patents and 391 work on congress. She has a great contribution on academic student formation, with more than 150 orientation concluded. She participated in 40 research projects.
