Epigenetic modifications comprise heritable gene expression changes that occur without alteration of the DNA sequence and 'co-act' with genetic factors to shape development processes and evolutionary trajectories. Multicellular organisms receive different types of environmental stimuli/stresses that trigger epigenetic modifications during development. Dr. Vaschetto is interested in identifying epigenetic-mediated mechanisms responsible for controlling the evolution of plants and animals, and the importance of epigenetic alterations in the development of human diseases. His research focuses on understanding the epigenetic processes underlying diverse biological phenomena.
