Spring had arrived. Someone had spotted a flock of geese flying over the Naskapi community of Kawawachikmach in northern Quebec. Eric is a young Naskapi boy eager to go on his first goose hunt with his grandparents. Everyone in the community of Kawawachikamach gets ready for the annual goose hunt. Goose hunt is a very special and important time to connect to the land for the Naskapi community. It is an exciting time for the children. The school is even closed for a week so kids like Eric do not miss any school. During this time of year, together, Eric, Grandma Sarah, and Grandpa Joe Ski-Doo out to Attikamagan Lake, where they set up camp and build a goose blind. After lots of patient waiting, Eric and his grandpa kill fourteen geese, and Eric celebrates this milestone-his very first goose-with his grandma's soup and a traditional decorated goose head. This warmly nostalgic story is well-suited to readers under the age of eight.
