Ann C. Gunter, Ph.D. (1980), is Curator for Ancient Near Eastern Art and Head of Research, Freer and Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. She has written and edited numerous publications in the field of ancient Near Eastern art and archaeology. Stefan R. Hauser, Ph.D. (1994) in Near Eastern History and Archaeology, Free University Berlin, is Senior Researcher at the University of Halle. He has written numerous books and articles on Assyrian, Parthian, and Byzantine archaeology and history as well as historiography.
