The need to write clearly and acceptably even when taking down dictated notes under classroom setting in order to enhance high academic grading is one of the most compelling reasons why this research has become imperative. Note - taking is an age - long practice in the formal learning system. It is the act of using alphabets, symbols or notations to register information on slates, scrolls or paper books which have relatively longer-life span. Note-taking itself is a very vital activity in the process of teaching and learning exercise by students at all levels of educational programme. While it is conceded that a handful of research has been done on error analysis in general, not much can be found of a particular attention to errors in note taking and their implication to academic achievement by students in Nigeria. This work therefore focuses on note-taking practices in secondary schools with the view to make its teaching more systematic in the Nigerian school curriculum.
