Contemporary writing in Iasi is both strong and varied, with not only such a world-class writer as Mihai Ursachi, but many other poets who deserve attention in an international context. The editor has availed himself of much suggestion, advice, and help from writers and critics in Iasi in making selections. This book includes twenty poets, with roughly ten poems each, a structure similar to the Cluj poets book, TRANSYLVANIAN VOICES, published by the Center for Romanian Studies in 1997, affter which it is modeled. The book includes brief bio-bibliographical notes on all the writers, together with a general introduction for foreign readers. The author, Radu R. Florescu, was a professor of history at Boston College. He is the author of The Struggle against Russia in the Romanian Principalities, Dracula: Prince of Many Faces, and In Search of Dracula.
