This book, comprising the Instructional Course Lectures delivered at the 19th ESSKA Congress in Milan in 2021, provides an excellent update on current scientific and clinical knowledge in the field of orthopaedics and sports traumatology. It addresses a variety of interesting and controversial topics relating to the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and foot, all of which are highly relevant to orthopaedic surgeons' daily practice. Featuring contributions written by leading experts from around the globe, it enables readers to gain a better understanding of pathologies, which in turn can lead to more individualized treatments for patients. The book is of interest to clinicians and researchers alike.
David Dejour is a surgeon working at the Lyon-Ortho-Clinic. His field of excellence is knee surgery - from sports medicine to degenerative pathology (osteoarthritis). He has published numerous articles on knee pathologies, particularly in relation femoral-patellar problems, ranging from patella dislocations to the onset of osteoarthritis. A consultant to various professional and amateur clubs on the management of sports joint pathologies, he is a member of several national and international scientific societies (SOFCOT, SFA ESSKA, ISAKOS, AOSSM). Matteo Denti is Chief of the Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopic Surgery Unit at the Galeazzi Institute in Milan, Italy, and a Professor at the University of Milano Bicocca. His research Interests include open and arthroscopic surgery for treating disorders of the shoulder and knee. He is the author of over 120 scientific papers published both in Italian and international orthopaedic journals and is on the editorial board or is a consultant reviewer of several journals. He is a member of the major societies and associations in the field of orthopaedics, such as ISAKOS, AOSSM, ESSKA, SIGASCOT, Herodicus Society, ACL Study Group). Elizaveta Kon is an Associate Professor at Humanitas University and Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan. Her research interests mainly focus on regenerative medicine, clinical and pre-clinical stem cell research, and the use of growth factors in orthopaedic disease. She has published over 140 articles in various scientific journals, many of which have received international recognition. Michael T. Hirschmann is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at University of Basel. He also serves as chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Kantonsspital Baselland (Bruderholz, Liestal, Laufen). As head of knee surgery Prof. Hirschmann focuses on the treatment of complex knee injuries as well as the degenerative knee, including osteotomy and partial and total knee arthroplasty. He has been awarded more than 40 different national and international awards for his research activity. Prof. Hirschmann is deputy editor in chief of the KSSTA journal and serves on the editorial board of many others. He published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in these areas and has been an active member of numerous societies, such as ESSKA, AAOS, ACL Study Group, AGA, DGOOC, DKG, EKA, EORS, GOTS and ISAKOS. Kristian Samuelsson is a Professor of Orthopaedics at the Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. His current research reflects the vast variability of conditions, patients and tissues that orthopaedic surgeons encounter in their clinical practice. He has written over 140 scientific papers that have been published in various scientific journals (ResearchGate, PubMed).
