Ethics in banks is all the more important as it establishes the confidence of the public in the system. Good ethical practices are important for banks as the banking system is based on the trust and confidence of people.An attempt was done to understand ethical ideology of Indian managers working in the banking sector by a comprehensive study covering managers from both public and private sector banks in Punjab. EPQ is used in this study to test the ethical orientation of managers i.e whether they are idealists or relativists. The ethical orientation of managers is also linked to their demographic profile to understand whether demographic factors determine the ethical ideology of managers in the banking sector. This study also throws light on challenges faced by them in making ethical decisions and comparison of ethical practices being followed by public and private sector banks in Punjab.
