Colonial rule orchestrated by the British colonialists in Nigeria left legacies which had more of negative consequences on the nation that evolved from what was referred to as the "unholy wedlock"(Amalgamation of January 1914). The colonial policies which served the intents and purposes of the British overlords plagued the emergent nation with several unsavory experiences and ethnic conflicts of different magnitude. The legacies have today permeated into all facets of the society making proper integration and unity difficult. However, we must not put all the blames at the doorpost of the British who left Nigeria in 1960 since not much was done to correct all the wrongs by subsequent governments with Nigerians at the helm of affairs.
