This paper aimed at assessing the degree of eutrophication of the Mearns Dam in KwaZuluNatal. There was nutrient pollution being contributed to the Mearns Dam but the nutrients within the dam were used up by the plants. However, external sources of pollution came from the surrounding agricultural farms through the use of fertilizer, fertilizer application and timing. The amount of nutrients that entered the dam was low in relation to the volume of water within the dam however land practices need to be improved so that the situation does not worsen.
