Several strategies for eradicating Aujeszky s disease (Pseudorabies) in Chiang-Mai and Lampoon Provinces, Thailand, were compared using a computer simulation model, the North American Animal Disease Spread Model (NAADSM). The duration of the outbreak, the number of infected herds and the number destroyed herds were compared during these simulated outbreaks. Destruction, zoning for restricted movement and improved detection and vaccination strategies were studied. Destruction was found to be the most effective method to eradicate Pseudorabies. Although zoning and ring vaccination did not influence this model, the recommendations from this study are to apply both destruction and three zone (3, 8 and 16 kilometers) restricted movements along with enhanced detection and a 16 vaccination ring.
