Since January 2012, Burkina Faso has welcomed Malian refugees on its territory in SAG-NIONIOGO/Pabré, following the crisis in that country. The protection of refugees is ensured thanks to the multisectoral intervention of several organisations that work daily to meet the needs of refugees. Many water and sanitation infrastructures have been built. To address hygiene and sanitation issues, several infrastructures have been built in the site. Awareness-raising on hygiene promotion carried out by the Red Cross has led the refugees to learn about the rules of hygiene, in particular the management of latrines, washing areas, water and the prevention of oro-fecal diseases.
