The Dutch painter Evert Thielen ( 1954) is a master of realistic painting. With painted details of particular beauty he carries viewers off to his artistic cosmos. He creates several levels of reality, connects them in the picture, and embeds them in a compositional artistic schema, whereby his painting style and way of working call to mind the golden age of Dutch painting. His choice of motifs and type of composition, however, enable him to translate them into a contemporary, artistic language. The new publication presents a compilation of the best works from the painter's oeuvre so far for the first time. Numerous photos of details are combined with a text that takes an in-depth look at Thielen's aesthetic theories and underlying philosophy.
