Evidence-based Periodontology aims to facilitate the efficient use of research data, accelerating the introduction of the best research into patient care. A useful definition of evidence-based health care has been proposed by Muir Gray: "An approach to decision making in which the clinician uses the best evidence available in consultation with the patient, to decide upon the options that suits that patient best." It is a tool to support decision making and integrating the best evidence available with clinical practice, and is composed of various levels, which starts with the recognition of a knowledge gap. From the knowledge gap comes a focused question that leads on to a search for relevant information .
