In dogs, the main cause is atrophy to acinar pancreática, and in cats, chronic pancreatitis. Obstruction of the pancreatic duct may occur, but is rare in both species. It results in clinical signs such as weight loss, steatorrhea, polyphagia, coprophagia, flatulence, borborigmo, among others. The measurement of immunoreactivity similar to trypsin is the most recommended test for diagnosis, although there are other tests that can help in the diagnostic conduct. The treatment of choice is the enzymatic replacement of pancreatin associated with food management.
