There is irresistible indication that compassion fatigue negatively affects nurses, patients, and the healthcare system. Merely a small extent of literature exists that addresses ways to combat compassion fatigue. The lack of theoretical clarity has also hindered empirical studies and depths from being performed that could help study the various concepts of compassion fatigue. It is concluded that healthcare supervisors have their workload reviewed for them in helping to curb compassion fatigue rates. It is also recommended that if hospitals want their staff to take better care of patients, and increase patient satisfaction scores.
