Diabetes mellitus is a state in which homeostasis of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism is improperly regulated. In this metabolic disorder there is a defective or deficient insulin secretory response for normal function of many cells of the body resulting in persistent hyperglycemia. Due to inadequate presence of insulin in the body, there are disorders of all kinds of metabolism, commonly with an increase in blood sugar accompanied by glycosuria, polyphagia, polyuria and polydipsia. This book is an innovative study in which diabetes mellitus was established in rabbits using diabetogenic agents. The debilitating effects of the disease that range from biochemical level to tissue level were studied. The tissue level changes that occur from pancreas to even neurons besides kidneys, liver, gastric mucosa and lungs have been reported in this book. Further, the therapeutic efficacy of certain drugs/herbs using biochemical and histopathological aspects were studied. This book thus, provides a balanced understanding of the biochemical, histological and post-treatment context of the disease. It enables researchers, medical personnel, academic as well as technical libraries and laboratories
