The objective of this study in Yakoma Territory was to contribute to improving the state of knowledge on the factors explaining adolescent fertility. According to the studies conducted in Yakoma, the fertility level of adolescent girls (10-19 years) has been relatively high over the past 15 years, with the rate approaching 187¿ for the most recent period, despite increasing trends in girls' school enrolment and urbanization over the past decades. It has been shown that, despite the existence of many opportunities for modernity for the Yakoma women of current generations, the precarious living conditions, cultural burdens and barriers that prevent adolescent girls from having free access to information and reproductive health services are all factors that must be taken into account in explaining the sexual behaviour of adolescent girls, which is a consequence of their early fertility.
