Most of the naturally occuring solid compounds such as minerals, plants, herbs etc., are inorganic in nature. They exhibit different colours due to the presence of transition metal ions.Even though we know the composition of some minerals we can't understood the properties exhibited by them which are useful in many applications such as medicine ,chemical industries, agriculture etc.For the characterisation of a mineral its structure is very important which determines the physical and chemical properties of the mineral. In order to explore the nature of metal ion and its bonding with surrounding ligands in a mineral, the spectroscopic techniques such as Electron Paramagnetic Resonance(EPR), Optical absorption and Near infrared spectroscopy(NIR) are used in the present study. This book covers the detailed investigations made on the minerals like dolamite, covellite which are obtained from Rayalaseema Zone of Andhra Pradesh, India and Coquimbo region, Chile respectively.
