The present volume deals with the phenomenon of Writing and the Mystical Experience in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Particular emphasis is laid on this theme within Jewish mysticism in the various stages of its historical development. Paul B. Fenton, Ph.D. (1975) in Oriental Studies, University of Sorbonne, is Professor of Hebrew and Jewish Studies at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. He has published extensively in the area of Jewish philosophy and mysticism in the Islamic context including his Philosophie et exégèse dans le Jardin de la métaphore (Brill, 1987). Roland Goetschel is Emeritus Professeur of Hebrew Language and Civilisation at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and Adjunct Professor at the Free University of Brussels. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg. His many publications on medieval Jewish philosophy and the Kabbalah include: Meir ibn Gabaay, Le Discours de la kabbale Espagnole (1981), Isaac Abravanel, Conseiller des Princes et Philosophe (1996) and La Kabbale (1998).
