A famous quote by Desiderius Erasmus says, "Prevention is better than Cure". The fight against corruption in Nigeria has always been directed solely towards its cure while neglecting its prevention which as a result, has not recorded any noticeable success over the years. To cure something means looking for solutions after it has already happened. This is the model currently being used in Nigeria to fight corruption, evident by the dependence on prosecution strategies and clamp down on perpetrators. This old model relies on using fear to deter people from corruption, which has proven ineffective. On the other hand, to prevent something means deploying different intentional strategies towards stopping it from happening in the first place, which is Cressey's model proposed in this book for the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Cressey's model places more emphasis on prevention rather than cure.
