The endemicity, the exploitation of bibliographic data and our surveys of healers and traditional practitioners, led us to study Senecio faujasioïdes of the ASTERACEAE family, a plant known to be effective in treating wounds, sores, suppuration, endocarditis and syphilis. After purification and microbiological tests, it was observed that the bactericidal principles of the hot aqueous extract are mainly found in the fraction from the heat treatment noted N1, in the fraction from the dialysate noted N3 and in the fraction from the pellet of the precipitation with 50% ethanol noted N5. The bactericidal activity against pathogenic microorganisms is attributed to the fraction from the pellet of the 50% ethanol precipitation (N5) with a minimum inhibitory concentration of about 0.86 µg/µl and a BMC equal to 0.97 µg/µl for Bacillus subtilis. The other purified fractions are also bactericidal.
