"After reviewing his body of work as a poet, Rob Smith compiled Eyes on Mars as a memoir based on childhood memories of how three young children, left on their own, managed to create a safe place located just under the radar of adult supervision. Growing up as the middle child of a working class family in Youngstown, Ohio, his world was thrown into chaos at the death of his young mother. Her loss threatened to shatter the bonds between siblings until their father resolved to try to stitch a household back together. Parallel to his father's efforts, three children created their own new reality as a mechanism for coping. Rob Smith is the 2006 winner of the Robert Frost Poetry Award from the Frost Foundation of Lawrence, MA" --
