Research on nanoscience and nanotechnology becomes a major growing area due to its wide variety of potential applications in different fields. Size dependent properties of nanocrystals have motivated the investigators for field applications in the area of biology, electronics, optical imaging, magnetic and chemical fields. Ability to synthesize nanocrystals of different shapes has heightened the activity in this area. One of the challenges faced by materials scientists today is the synthesis of materials with desired shape, composition, morphology, and properties for specific applications. There is always an increasing demand for alternate routes to the synthesis of metal oxide materials that give superior properties when compared with those available from conventional methods. Novel metal oxide nanostructures can be generated by a number of preparation methods that typically are described as physical and chemical methods. Some of the important methods are described in this book.
