We asked 52 women over 40 the question: "How do you feel about growing older?" The thoughts that they shared with us, and those of over 100 women who sent their words and "selfies", were by turns moving, funny and heart breaking. Often heart warming. Always inspiring. We asked 52 women over 40 the question: "How do you feel about growing older?" The thoughts that they shared with us, and those of over 100 women who sent their words and "selfies", were by turns moving, funny and heart breaking. Often heart warming. Always inspiring. In this instagrammable world, we have become used to seeing our own and each other's faces "filtered", flattened and featureless. To look "young for your age" is considered a compliment. At the Midlife Movement we say there is nothing wrong with being older, or old. We are beautiful just as we are - every line, grey hair, lump and bump speaks of our experience, strength and character. Featured by the BBC, this collection of 166 black and white portraits and interviews with women over 40 without their make up - including over 100 "selfies" sent to the project - is our way of trying to "normalise" seeing older faces. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good, or in wearing make up. But we believe it is time to reclaim our natural beauty and not be ashamed that we are no longer youthful. I see beauty in every woman I photograph. The women who took part in this project are full of wisdom, grace and joy and I feel privileged to have been able to reflect that back to them.
