This work, using Brown & Levinson's Politeness Strategies, concerns itself with the role communication plays in adverts. Specifically how Spam as a medium, is used to send unsolicited mass adverts to recipients. The research concludes that negative politeness(Spammer tries to reduce the imposition on recipient by providing a way 'out' from the request for recipient) is predominantly used in Spam messages and may come in two varieties - Formal and Informal Spam messages.
